Latin

Picture: Flickr

I've been wanting to learn Latin for a while. I tried to apply for an evening course this semesterbut couldn't find one that fitted my schedule. I think knowing Latin would help me in learning and understanding many other languages based on latin, for example Spanish, French, Italian and so on. And second, I love learning languages, my passion. I hope to find an opportunity to realize this, or possibly another language. But Latin, sure would be cool, and helpful.

I see that Boris Johnson, the new London Mayor wants Latin and Greek to be taught in all London schools. However I would prefer Esperanto on the basis that it helps all language learning.

Five British schools have introduced Esperanto in order to test its propaedeutic values. The pilot project is being monitored by the University of Manchester and the initial encouraging results can be seen at http://www.springboard2languages.org/Summary%20of%20evaluation,%20S2L%20Phase%201.pdf

Pope Benedict also used this language this year in his Urbi et Orbi address from the Vatican, at Christmas.

Hey Brian, thanks for the tips! I think all language learning is great considering how the amount of school kids that want to learn langugages in school decreases every year (at least in Sweden). If Latin or Esperanto, I wish kids could start seeing the fun AND use of knowing languages nowadays.
